typology: tradition-religion
Area: Piana di Lucca
District/Locality: Pescaglia (LU) - Italy

In the municipality of Pescaglia also this year the traditional crib inside the cave is set up. A charming nativity scene in the natural cave known as the "Cave of Campore" organized by the Speleological Mountain Group Valfreddana, only a few hundred meters away from the Ironworks Galgani of Pielucese . The setting in the cave, between stalactites and limestone concretions, make the atmosphere really unique.
This is one of the most beautiful Nativity scenes of the province Lucca, which is visited by thousands of people every year. You get to the Grotto along a path in the forest of 600 m, where you can walk safely on your own, since it is illuminated at night. Some volunteers of the Nativity scene will welcome the guests at the entrance of the cave and accompany them into the natural cavity of 40 m. length, where it is possible to admire concretions of calcite that are still alive and the natural lake of pure water that frames the Nativity. The whole cave is well-lighted to emphasize the shape and the characters of the nativity scene, 45 cm tall. It is possible to participate as a volunteer to the Nativity scene to share the Christmas atmosphere.
How to get there: from Diecimo Pescaglia take the direction Pescaglia until the hamlet of Trebbio, then go ahead on the road that leads from Convalle to the Ironworks Galgani (1794) in Piè Lucese. (The path is indicated with appropriate signposts).
Visitors coming from Versilia must go to Gombitelli (Camaiore) first and continue to Piè Lucese from there. Leave your car at the Ironworks Galgani and from there walk along a marked and illuminated trail for a little more than 500 meters. Suitable shoes are recommended.
